Looking for the best meal prep containers? If you have moved into the lifestyle of meal prepping you know having the right containers is important. They will help you move to the next level by setting up portion control, easing the pressure to make food decisions nightly and letting you cook less by making bigger meals and dividing them up.
Use this guide to figure out the Best Meal Prep Containers for you:
Plastic Meal Prep Containers
Using Plastic Meal Prep Containers has some very clear advantages. They are the cheapest way to transport your food, microwave and freezer safe, easy to wash and with a lower price tag it's okay if they break or get lost. One negative is that if you eat food that doesn't smell all that great they adsorb those smells! They take up minimal storage space.
If you are going for volume this 50 Pack Meal Prep Plastic Microwaveable Food Containers is your best bet. These are leak proof, safe for the freezer and can be used in the microwave.
If you prefer your foods not touch you can always grab these ChefLand 3-Compartment Microwave Safe Food Container with Lid/Divided Plate. These are freezer and dishwasher safe and can help with portion control as you meal prep! Sometimes you can find deals on these in the store as well.
Glass Meal Prep Containers
Using glass meal prep containers can have some huge advantages- they are stain and smell resistant and healthier than plastic. However they aren't incredibly portable, weigh more and are breakable. If you are a hard-core meal prepper these may not work. If you are just taking your lunch to work these may be perfect for you!
One of the highest rated glass containers on Amazon are these Utopia Kitchen Glass Food Storage Containers. You can find sets as small as 6 pieces if you want to start out with less of a commitment. Just be sure to read reviews and check the characteristics- some sets are better for going straight from freezer to oven than other sets.
If you want to go with the classics almost no one has a reputation like Rubbermaid! With over 2,000 reviews it seems everyone has checked out these Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids Glass Food Storage Containers!
Stainless Steel Meal Prep Containers
I have to be honest- I didn't even know these were an option until I began researching this post. It appear that stainless steel meal prep containers have two advantages over other containers- they are stylish and they keep steaming foods hot. However they are not microwave safe and many types are not water proof.
Easily the most popular ones are made by Bento. For example these Bento Lunch Box Leak Proof Stainless Steel Cans with Lids have great reviews and are dishwasher safe. At their price they aren't really practical for making a week's worth of food at a time but a few servings would work well!
One of my obvious stainless steel meal prep containers is a Thermos style container. (Thermos is like Kleenex- it's a brand name we use to describe a product because it's so well known!) I actually own this Thermos Stainless King 16 Ounce Food Jar with Folding Spoon and have found it keeps my soups hot for the promised 4 hours. But people online rave about these Lunchbots products (pictured above). Almost every product has at minimum a four star rating.
What do you think? What are your favorite containers?
